Belly Dance Core Integration

This workshop integrates principles of Pilates (a movement discipline that focuses on the core postural muscles that are essential to providing support for the spine) and applies them to our dance practice. Pilates is an excellent addition to belly dance in that it conditions the muscles that are necessary to develop a healthy and strong dance posture while deepening body awareness. This awareness of the individual muscle groups in the dancer’s body (particularly in the torso) helps in learning and improving various isolations used in the dance. We will learn some of the fundamental exercises of pilates and then apply them to various belly dance movements. The focus will be on moving from the core with strength and grace. By applying the techniques from this workshop, you can expect improved dance posture, cleaner isolations, increased torso flexibility and a better understanding of your core muscles and the role they play in your dance practice.

Funk Fusion Belly Dance

Pop, Lock, Break, & Roll; This workshop gives you the funky essentials for adding hip hop elements into your bellydance practice. Our warm up will focus on layered isolations including syncopated body rhythms, layering two and three dimensional movements simultaneously, and traveling shimmy layers. Then we'll move on to funk fusion combos that you can use, deconstruct, or use to create your own! Come away challenged, inspired, and with lots to work on at home.
